The Indian-American community in New Jersey has marked a significant milestone by creating a Guinness World Record through a large-scale flagpole display during celebrations commemorating India’s 80th Independence Day and the United States’ 250th anniversary.
The event took place at Veterans Memorial Park in Parsippany and was organised by the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA), in association with the Consulate General of India in New York and with support from technology company Zoho.
As part of the record-setting initiative, participants created a flagpole formation representing the number 250, reflecting the United States’ landmark anniversary. More than 1,300 American flags were reportedly positioned around Indian Tricolours during the programme.
The event attracted several senior representatives and community leaders, including New Jersey Lieutenant Governor Dale Caldwell, US Congresswoman Analilia Mejia, Consul General of India in New York Binay Srikant Pradhan and Parsippany Mayor Pulkit Desai.
The gathering served as both a cultural celebration and a demonstration of the strong community connections between India and the United States. Speakers highlighted the contribution of Indian-Americans to American society and their continuing role in strengthening bilateral people-to-people relations.
The Consulate General of India in New York acknowledged the efforts of FIA Chairman Ankur Vaidya and FIA President Sreekanth Akkapalli in organising the initiative. Zoho was also recognised for its support for the record-setting event.
The achievement comes during a symbolic year for both countries. While India is celebrating 80 years of independence, the United States is commemorating 250 years of independence. The New Jersey programme brought these two milestones together through a unique public display involving the Indian-American diaspora.
The record-setting celebration also formed part of wider Independence Day programmes organised across the New York tri-state region. These events included flag-hoisting ceremonies, cultural programmes and community gatherings.
The Guinness World Record highlights not only the scale of the celebration but also the growing cultural presence of the Indian-American community in the United States. The event ultimately served as a visible expression of community unity and the enduring relationship between India and America.
