Tata Boeing Aerospace Limited (TBAL) has achieved a significant milestone in India’s aerospace manufacturing sector by rolling out its 400th fuselage for the AH-64E Apache attack helicopter from its advanced production facility in Hyderabad.
TBAL is a joint venture between Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and Boeing, established in 2016 to strengthen India’s capabilities in advanced aerospace manufacturing. The company’s 52,000-square-metre facility manufactures Apache fuselage structures in India before they are integrated into complete helicopters supplied to customers around the world.
The latest milestone demonstrates the increasing depth of India’s participation in global defence production networks. TBAL has supplied fuselages for Apache helicopters delivered to the US Army, as well as the six Apache helicopters delivered to the Indian Army in 2025. The Indian Air Force separately operates a fleet of 22 AH-64E Apache helicopters.
The facility has more than 750 engineers and technicians, who use advanced robotics, automation and modern aerospace manufacturing technologies in the production of Apache aerostructures. According to Boeing, around 1,300 Apache helicopters are currently operating across 19 countries, giving the Indian manufacturing facility an important role in supporting an established global helicopter programme.
The 400th fuselage milestone also comes as Tata Advanced Systems continues to expand its ambitions in the wider defence manufacturing sector. Last week, TASL signed a memorandum of understanding with the Javelin Joint Venture, involving Raytheon and Lockheed Martin, to explore the co-production of Javelin All Up Round missiles in India.
Under the proposed Javelin manufacturing arrangement, the companies intend to examine the establishment of a dedicated facility in India for final assembly and integration, along with local production of components. The initiative could further connect Indian defence manufacturing capabilities with established US supply chains.
The Apache programme therefore represents more than an aircraft production milestone for India. The steady increase in locally manufactured aerostructures demonstrates the country’s growing ability to participate in sophisticated international aerospace programmes while developing domestic engineering, manufacturing and technology capabilities.
TBAL’s achievement comes at a time when India is seeking to deepen indigenous defence production and increase its contribution to global defence supply chains. The rollout of the 400th Apache fuselage underlines the growing importance of Indian facilities in supporting advanced military platforms used by forces in India and overseas.
