India Among Top 5 Global Defence Spendings, Outspends Pakistan Nearly Eight Times: SIPRI Report
India has strengthened its position as one of the world’s leading military powers, ranking among the top five defence spenders globally, according to the latest report released by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).
The report places India behind only the United States, China, Russia, and Germany in global military expenditure rankings. This reflects India’s continued focus on modernising its armed forces and enhancing national security capabilities.
According to SIPRI data, India’s defence expenditure reached approximately $92.1 billion, marking a steady increase in military spending. This rise highlights the country’s ongoing efforts to upgrade defence infrastructure, procure advanced weapon systems, and boost domestic defence production under the self-reliance initiative.
One of the key highlights of the report is the significant gap between India and Pakistan’s defence budgets. India is now spending nearly eight times more on its military compared to Pakistan, underlining a widening imbalance in conventional military capabilities between the two neighbouring nations.
SIPRI further notes that global military spending continues to rise due to ongoing geopolitical tensions, regional conflicts, and large-scale modernisation programs across several countries. India’s increasing defence budget aligns with this global trend, reflecting its strategic priorities in a changing security environment.
A major focus of India’s defence policy remains the push for indigenous production under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The country is actively investing in domestic manufacturing, advanced defence technologies, and reducing dependence on imports to strengthen long-term military readiness.
Overall, the SIPRI report underscores India’s growing role as a key global defence power. With a defence budget of $92.1 billion, India continues to expand its military capabilities while maintaining a significant strategic advantage over regional rivals.
