Jodhpur Airport Reopens After Runway Upgrade, IAF Dornier Leads First Landing
Commercial flight operations at Jodhpur Airport have resumed after a temporary shutdown for runway modernization, marking a significant step in strengthening both civil and military aviation infrastructure in the region.
The upgraded runway was declared operational after an Indian Air Force Dornier aircraft successfully carried out the first landing, signaling the completion of the refurbishment work. The test landing validated the runway’s readiness for regular air traffic and ensured compliance with safety standards.
Jodhpur Airport, which functions as a shared facility between civil aviation authorities and the Indian Air Force, had halted civilian flights for several weeks to allow for essential maintenance. The project primarily involved resurfacing the runway to improve durability, enhance load-bearing capacity, and support smoother aircraft operations.
Officials confirmed that the upgrade was executed within the planned timeline through coordinated efforts between the Air Force and airport authorities. With the completion of the work, airlines have restarted their scheduled services, restoring air connectivity between Jodhpur and key Indian cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.
The runway enhancement is part of a broader initiative aimed at upgrading critical infrastructure at defence airbases that also serve civilian flights. Such developments are intended to improve operational efficiency, reduce maintenance-related disruptions, and ensure higher safety standards for both military and commercial aviation.
Given Jodhpur’s strategic location in western India, the airbase plays an important role in defence preparedness while also serving as a vital transportation hub for passengers. The reopening of the runway is expected to ease travel disruptions and boost regional connectivity.
With normal operations back in place, passenger traffic is likely to stabilize quickly as airlines resume full schedules in the coming days.
