The Indian Army is strengthening its technical preparedness along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), with a focus on ensuring the operational readiness of weapons, vehicles and specialised equipment deployed in high-altitude areas. Lt Gen Rajiv Kumar Sahni, Director General of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (DGEME) and Colonel Commandant of the Corps of EME, recently visited forward areas in the Fire and Fury Corps sector to review the technical support framework for troops.
During the visit, Lt Gen Sahni assessed the operational preparedness, performance and reliability of weapons and equipment used by Army units and formations operating in the challenging border environment. The review included Next-Generation Vehicles, specialised equipment, unmanned aerial systems and the maintenance and repair infrastructure supporting frontline formations.
The Army’s emphasis on technical preparedness assumes particular importance in high-altitude areas, where extreme terrain and climatic conditions can place additional demands on military equipment. Reliable engineering and maintenance support is therefore essential for sustaining operational availability and ensuring that frontline units remain prepared for prolonged deployments.
Lt Gen Sahni also interacted with personnel of the Corps of EME and encouraged them to maintain high standards of technical proficiency, mission readiness and innovation. The engagement highlighted the role of skilled technical personnel in supporting modern military systems and adapting maintenance solutions to the requirements of high-altitude operations.
The visit underlines the Indian Army’s continuing focus on strengthening its technical backbone along the LAC, combining modern equipment, unmanned systems and robust maintenance capabilities to support troops deployed in demanding operational conditions.
