The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has achieved a significant milestone in its operational history by completing 12 consecutive months without a single operational fatality for the first time in 47 years. The development marks a major achievement for India’s largest central armed police force, which continues to undertake security operations in several sensitive and conflict-affected regions across the country.
CRPF Director General G.P. Singh announced the achievement, stating that the force had recorded one full year without an operational death, with the last such fatality reported on October 30, 2025. According to Singh, the previous comparable period ended in January 1979, making the latest accomplishment particularly significant in the force’s history.
The milestone comes despite the continued deployment of CRPF personnel in challenging operational environments, including Jammu and Kashmir, Left-Wing Extremism-affected regions and the northeastern states. The force remains actively involved in counter-terrorism, anti-Naxal and counter-insurgency operations, making personnel safety a critical priority.
Singh attributed the achievement to a combination of modern equipment, improved training standards, better operational planning and strengthened emergency response arrangements. He particularly highlighted the importance of rapidly evacuating injured personnel to secondary and tertiary medical facilities, noting that timely medical intervention has played an important role in preventing injuries from becoming fatal.
The development also reflects changes in the operational environment and security strategy adopted by the force. Improved coordination, better preparation for high-risk missions and greater attention to protective measures have contributed to personnel safety during field deployments.
The CRPF has been at the forefront of India’s internal security operations for decades. Its responsibilities include combating Maoist insurgency, maintaining security in Jammu and Kashmir and assisting authorities in managing security challenges in the Northeast. With approximately 3.25 lakh personnel, the force remains a central pillar of India’s internal security framework.
The achievement comes at a time when India’s security operations against Left-Wing Extremism have recorded significant progress. The government has intensified efforts to eliminate Maoist violence through coordinated security operations, intelligence-based action and development initiatives in affected regions. Meanwhile, the CRPF continues to maintain deployments in areas where security challenges remain.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also acknowledged the force’s achievement, describing it as a milestone through a post on social media. His message highlighted the significance of the CRPF completing 12 consecutive months without an operational fatality.
While the zero-fatality record represents considerable progress in operational safety, the force continues to face complex responsibilities across multiple security theatres. The latest milestone underlines the importance of modern equipment, effective training, strategic planning and efficient medical support in protecting personnel engaged in high-risk duties.
The achievement is therefore not only a significant moment for the CRPF but also an important indicator of the growing emphasis on personnel protection and operational preparedness within India’s internal security forces.
