India to Exceed ₹50,000 Crore Defence Export Target by 2029, Says Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh

India is on course to achieve a major milestone in its defence manufacturing sector, with Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh stating that the country’s defence exports are expected to surpass ₹50,000 crore by 2029. The projection underscores India’s accelerating progress in becoming a significant global defence supplier.

Speaking on the growing capabilities of the domestic defence industry, Singh highlighted that India’s export performance has improved steadily over recent years, supported by policy reforms, indigenous production initiatives, and expanding participation from private industry players.

The government’s push under the Atmanirbhar Bharat framework has played a key role in strengthening the defence manufacturing ecosystem. A wide range of products, including missiles, artillery systems, armoured platforms, drones, and electronic warfare equipment, are now being developed and exported by Indian manufacturers.

According to defence officials, India’s export base has widened significantly, with increasing interest from countries in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. These regions are showing strong demand for cost-effective and reliable defence solutions made in India.

Rajesh Kumar Singh noted that reforms in licensing procedures, ease of doing business, and increased industry collaboration have helped boost export competitiveness. As a result, India’s defence exports have already reached record levels in recent years and continue to show strong upward momentum.

Experts believe that global supply chain diversification and rising geopolitical uncertainties have further created opportunities for India to position itself as a trusted defence exporter. The country is now increasingly seen as an alternative supplier to traditional defence manufacturing nations.

With sustained investment in research, technology development, and industrial capacity expansion, India aims to further strengthen its global presence in the defence sector. If current growth trends continue, the ₹50,000 crore export target by 2029 appears increasingly achievable.
