Punjab Police have foiled an alleged terror plot linked to Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), arresting a key operative and recovering an 86-P hand grenade during a counter-terror operation in Punjab.
The operation was carried out by Counter Intelligence Jalandhar in coordination with SBS Nagar Police. According to Punjab Police officials, the action disrupted an alleged BKI terror module and prevented a potential attack. The arrested operative is suspected of being connected to foreign-based handlers who were allegedly directing the activities of the network.
During the operation, security personnel recovered an 86-P hand grenade. Preliminary investigation has indicated that the grenade was allegedly procured through a Dead Letter Box near Adampur in Jalandhar on the instructions of foreign-based handlers. The use of such covert channels is being investigated as part of efforts to establish the complete logistics and communication network behind the alleged module.
Punjab Police said the investigation is now focused on identifying the foreign-based handlers, local associates and other individuals who may have supported the network. Authorities are also examining the operational and logistical links of the arrested operative to determine whether the module had additional members or planned further attacks.
An FIR has been registered at Sadar Nawanshahr Police Station in SBS Nagar under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Explosive Substances Act. Further investigation is underway to trace the wider network and establish the role of individuals connected with the alleged conspiracy.
The latest operation highlights the continued efforts by Punjab Police and intelligence agencies to counter cross-border terror networks and disrupt attempts by foreign-based handlers to establish or activate terror modules in India. The recovery of the grenade and arrest of the suspected operative before any attack could take place marks a significant success for the state’s counter-terrorism apparatus.
