India and Russia Reaffirm $100 Billion Trade Goal, Deepen Defence and Strategic Cooperation

India and Russia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their long-standing strategic partnership, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin endorsing an ambitious goal of increasing bilateral trade to $100 billion by 2030. The renewed commitment reflects the growing momentum in economic, defence, and technological cooperation between the two countries.

The announcement reflects the shared commitment of New Delhi and Moscow to further strengthen their long-standing strategic partnership. Both leaders emphasized expanding cooperation across defence, trade, energy, technology, and investment while adapting to evolving global geopolitical and economic challenges.

Defence remains one of the strongest pillars of India-Russia relations. The two nations are expected to accelerate cooperation in joint production, military technology, maintenance support, and industrial partnerships under India’s drive to strengthen indigenous defence manufacturing. Existing collaborations have laid a solid foundation for future projects involving advanced military platforms and defence equipment.

Economic cooperation is also expected to receive a significant boost. Both governments are working to improve trade mechanisms, strengthen banking and payment systems, expand investments, and enhance connectivity to facilitate smoother movement of goods and services. These efforts are expected to support the shared objective of achieving the $100 billion bilateral trade target.

Energy continues to play a central role in bilateral ties, with Russia remaining an important supplier of crude oil and other strategic resources to India. At the same time, both countries are exploring new opportunities in nuclear energy, critical minerals, pharmaceuticals, transportation, digital technology, and logistics to diversify their economic partnership.

The leaders also highlighted the importance of increasing business-to-business engagement and encouraging cooperation between industries, research institutions, and technology companies. Expanding collaboration in innovation and advanced manufacturing is expected to contribute to stronger economic resilience for both nations.

As India and Russia continue to reinforce their comprehensive strategic partnership, the renewed focus on defence cooperation, trade expansion, and technological collaboration is expected to play a significant role in shaping bilateral relations over the coming decade.
