Punjab Police have dismantled two alleged ISI-backed cross-border terror modules in a major counter-terrorism operation, foiling what officials described as a planned attack targeting Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. The operation resulted in the arrest of nine accused, including four juveniles, and the recovery of illegal firearms, petrol bombs, and ammunition.
Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said the operation was carried out by the Amritsar Commissionerate Police following intelligence inputs and sustained surveillance. According to him, the investigation revealed that the suspects were allegedly in contact with Pakistan-based handlers who were attempting to recruit local youth for terror-related activities and create disturbances in India.
Police said the accused were allegedly tasked with carrying out attacks at public locations, with Delhi’s Jantar Mantar identified as one of the intended targets. Investigators are examining digital evidence, communication records, and financial transactions to determine the full extent of the network and identify additional individuals linked to the conspiracy.
During the operation, security personnel recovered three illegal pistols, nine live cartridges, and four petrol bombs from the accused. Officials believe these recoveries indicate that the group had begun preparations for carrying out disruptive activities before being intercepted by law enforcement agencies.
DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that preliminary findings suggest the network was operating under the guidance of foreign-based ISI handlers. He added that the objective was to radicalize and recruit vulnerable youth while using them to execute acts aimed at disturbing peace and public order.
The investigation remains ongoing, with central and state security agencies working together to uncover the wider network and trace any additional cross-border connections. Authorities have also stepped up security at sensitive locations as a precautionary measure while further arrests are not being ruled out.
