Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh has commenced a three-day official visit to Vietnam, aimed at further strengthening defence cooperation and expanding military-to-military ties between the two countries. The visit highlights India’s growing strategic engagement with Southeast Asia and its commitment to enhancing partnerships in the Indo-Pacific region.
During his visit, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh is expected to hold discussions with senior Vietnamese defence officials and air force leadership on areas of mutual interest, including operational cooperation, training exchanges and opportunities for deeper collaboration between the two air forces.
India and Vietnam share a long-standing defence relationship, with both nations working together in areas such as military training, capacity building and technical cooperation. One of the key aspects of this partnership has been the Indian Air Force’s support in training Vietnamese pilots and personnel for operating and maintaining Sukhoi-30 fighter aircraft.
The engagement comes at a time when both countries are focusing on improving regional security cooperation amid evolving challenges in the Indo-Pacific. Defence interactions between India and Vietnam have expanded significantly over the years, covering maritime security, defence exchanges and service-level cooperation.
Air Chief Marshal AP Singh’s visit is expected to provide further momentum to defence ties by exploring new avenues of cooperation, enhancing interoperability and strengthening professional exchanges between the Indian and Vietnamese air forces.
Vietnam remains an important partner for India under its broader Act East policy, with defence cooperation forming a key pillar of bilateral relations. Both nations continue to work towards maintaining peace, stability and security in the Indo-Pacific region through increased strategic engagement.
