Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and Esri India have entered into a strategic partnership to jointly explore and develop advanced geospatial solutions for India’s defence sector. The two organisations have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on Geographic Information Systems (GIS), location intelligence, and GeoAI-based technologies.
The collaboration brings together BEL’s extensive experience in defence electronics, systems integration, and indigenous military technologies with Esri India’s expertise in geospatial platforms and mapping solutions. The partnership is expected to support the development of next-generation defence applications that enhance situational awareness, decision-making, and mission planning capabilities.
Under the agreement, both companies will work towards identifying opportunities in defence projects involving geospatial intelligence, real-time data analysis, and advanced location-based technologies. These solutions are expected to play a crucial role in improving operational efficiency for India’s armed forces across multiple domains.
The integration of GIS and GeoAI technologies can provide military commanders with enhanced battlefield awareness by combining satellite data, terrain analysis, and intelligence inputs into a unified operational picture. Such capabilities are becoming increasingly important in modern warfare, where speed, accuracy, and data-driven decisions are critical.
BEL, a Navratna defence public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, has been a key contributor to India’s defence ecosystem through advanced electronics, radar systems, communication equipment, and weapon system technologies.
Esri India, known for its geospatial technology solutions, provides GIS platforms that support applications across defence, infrastructure, disaster management, and strategic planning sectors. Through this partnership, both organisations aim to contribute towards the development of indigenous defence technologies aligned with India’s vision of self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
