Chinese Ambassador Xu Feihong has urged translating diplomatic consensus into concrete actions to strengthen bilateral relations between India and China, according to recent statements on India-China engagement.
The envoy’s call reflects Beijing’s position that high-level agreements between the two nations require follow-through in operational and institutional frameworks. The remarks come amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to maintain stability and improve communication along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
India-China relations have historically depended on translating political consensus into practical military and civilian cooperation. The two nations share a 3,488 km border, making border management mechanisms and military-to-military dialogue essential for maintaining regional stability. The Indian Army continues to maintain a robust presence in forward areas, supported by enhanced infrastructure development and operational preparedness along the LAC.
Diplomatic engagement between New Delhi and Beijing typically involves multiple layers, including foreign office talks, defence ministry dialogues, and military-to-military interactions through mechanisms such as the Working Group on Defence and Security Cooperation. Both countries also maintain communication channels aimed at reducing the risk of misunderstandings along their shared border.
India’s broader security approach toward China remains cautious, particularly in the defence and aerospace sectors. While civilian cooperation continues in areas such as trade and technology, defence cooperation remains limited. India has also accelerated efforts to strengthen indigenous defence manufacturing and diversify critical supply chains.
The Indian Air Force and Navy continue to enhance surveillance and operational readiness in sectors bordering China. Air defence systems, forward air bases, and integrated command structures have been strengthened to improve situational awareness and support rapid response capabilities.
Ambassador Xu’s appeal for action-oriented implementation of bilateral consensus underscores the importance of sustained diplomatic engagement and practical cooperation. The future trajectory of India-China relations is expected to remain influenced by border stability, economic interests, and broader geopolitical developments in the Indo-Pacific region.
