India and US Strengthen Military Ties as Tiger Triumph 2026 Concludes in Visakhapatnam

India and the United States have concluded the 2026 edition of Exercise Tiger Triumph in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, further strengthening military cooperation between the two countries. Conducted from October 31 to November 5, the fifth edition of the bilateral exercise focused on improving coordination and operational interoperability among the Indian and US armed forces, particularly in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR) missions.

Exercise Tiger Triumph is a joint tri-service initiative involving the Army, Navy and Air Force of both countries. Its primary objective is to develop a shared understanding of operational procedures and enhance the ability of the participating forces to respond effectively to large-scale natural disasters and humanitarian emergencies. The 2026 exercise placed particular emphasis on joint planning and amphibious operations.

The programme included a Staff Exercise (STAFFEX) and a Tabletop Exercise (TTX). During the Staff Exercise, military personnel participated in operational planning sessions, academic discussions and Subject Matter Expert Exchanges (SMEEs). These engagements provided opportunities to share professional knowledge and discuss important operational areas, including cyberspace and medical operations.

The Tabletop Exercise allowed participants to apply their planning and coordination skills through simulated emergency scenarios. It helped both sides examine operational requirements, improve communication and develop a coordinated approach to conducting combined humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations.

The closing ceremony was attended by Rear Admiral Vishal Bishnoi, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet of the Indian Navy, and Rear Admiral Joaquin J. Martinez de Pinillos, Vice Commander of the US Pacific Fleet, alongside senior military officials and other dignitaries from both countries.

Since its first edition in 2019, Exercise Tiger Triumph has served as an important platform for expanding professional exchanges and strengthening cooperation between the Indian and American armed forces. Its tri-service structure enables personnel from different military branches to understand each other’s capabilities and improve their readiness for joint missions.

The successful completion of Tiger Triumph 2026 reflects the continued commitment of India and the United States to strengthening defence relations and enhancing their ability to work together during humanitarian crises. The exercise also contributes to broader cooperation and stability across the Indo-Pacific region.
