Artillery Regiment Flags Off Motorcycle Expedition from Drass to Mark 27 Years of Operation Vijay

The Indian Army’s Regiment of Artillery has launched a special motorcycle expedition from the Kargil War Memorial in Drass to commemorate the 27th anniversary of Operation Vijay, paying tribute to the soldiers who fought and sacrificed during the 1999 Kargil War. The expedition also forms part of the Regiment of Artillery’s bicentenary celebrations, highlighting two centuries of distinguished service to the nation.

The expedition features 20 motorcycle riders drawn from artillery units that played a crucial role during the Kargil conflict. Over the coming days, the team will travel through some of Ladakh’s most historically significant battlefields, gun positions and frontier valleys, revisiting locations where Indian soldiers displayed exceptional courage during Operation Vijay.

The flag-off ceremony was held at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass in the presence of senior Army officers, civil administration officials, NCC cadets, local representatives and residents, reflecting the enduring bond between the Indian Army and the people of Ladakh. The expedition is being led by Major General Arvind Yadav, VSM, Additional Director General and Colonel Commandant of the Regiment of Artillery.

During the journey, the riders will visit important memorials and operational locations associated with the Kargil War while interacting with local communities and troops deployed in forward areas. The initiative aims to preserve the legacy of Operation Vijay, inspire younger generations with stories of military courage and honour the sacrifices made by India’s armed forces in defending the nation’s territorial integrity.

The expedition will conclude on August 14 with a ceremonial flag-in at Leh. Besides commemorating one of India’s most significant military victories, the journey also reinforces the Regiment of Artillery’s enduring motto, “Sarvatra Izzat-O-Iqbal” (“Everywhere with Honour and Glory”), symbolising its commitment to service, professionalism and battlefield excellence.
