Solar Defence Exports 1,000 Guided Pinaka Rockets to Armenia

India has achieved another milestone in its growing defence export sector, with Nagpur-based Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited (SDAL) exporting its first batch of 1,000 Guided Pinaka rockets to Armenia. The development highlights the increasing international demand for Indian-made military equipment and the expanding role of private companies in India’s defence manufacturing industry.

The shipment is part of India’s defence cooperation agreement with Armenia, which includes the supply of Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher systems, ammunition and associated equipment. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh flagged off the export shipment during his visit to Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited’s manufacturing facility in Nagpur in January 2026.

The Guided Pinaka is an advanced variant of the indigenous Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launcher system developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). Unlike conventional unguided rockets, the guided version incorporates advanced guidance technology to improve accuracy and targeting capabilities. With a reported range exceeding 70 kilometres, the system provides enhanced long-range artillery capabilities.

Armenia became the first international customer for India’s Pinaka rocket system after signing a defence agreement with New Delhi in 2022. Earlier deliveries of unguided Pinaka systems were completed by late 2024. The latest export of guided rockets represents another important step in strengthening defence ties between the two countries.

Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited, part of the Solar Group, plays an important role in manufacturing advanced ammunition for India’s defence requirements and international customers. Its contribution reflects the growing participation of private Indian companies in producing sophisticated military equipment and supporting the country’s ambition to become a major global defence exporter.

The export also demonstrates India’s progress in developing and supplying indigenous weapon systems to international markets. As defence cooperation between India and Armenia continues to expand, the delivery of Guided Pinaka rockets strengthens their strategic partnership while creating further opportunities for Indian defence manufacturers.

The development reinforces India’s growing position in the global defence industry and highlights the increasing capabilities of its domestic defence manufacturing sector.
