Fresh details from the documentary Declassified: Operation Sindoor have highlighted a tense episode during the May 2025 India-Pakistan conflict, when Pakistan reportedly launched a high-speed missile towards the Delhi region.
The incoming threat was detected and intercepted by India’s air-defence network, preventing it from reaching its intended target. The episode underlined the growing intensity of Pakistan’s missile and drone attacks during the final stages of Operation Sindoor.
India had launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir following the Pahalgam terror attack. Pakistan subsequently escalated the confrontation by launching missiles and drones towards multiple Indian locations. India said its integrated air-defence systems successfully neutralised the incoming threats.
The Pakistani attacks were followed by a powerful Indian military response. Indian forces expanded their targeting beyond terrorist infrastructure to Pakistani military installations, including strategically important air bases and other defence facilities.
The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile became a key element of India’s precision-strike capability during the operation. Known for its high speed, accuracy and stand-off range, BrahMos provided Indian forces with the ability to engage critical targets deep inside hostile territory.
Indian strikes reportedly caused significant damage to Pakistani military infrastructure, including air bases and associated facilities. The operation demonstrated how India could combine long-range precision weapons with air-defence systems, drones and other capabilities during a rapidly developing conflict.
The Delhi missile episode also highlights the importance of India’s layered air-defence architecture. While systems on the defensive side worked to protect major cities and military installations from incoming missiles and drones, precision weapons such as BrahMos provided India with an offensive option to strike the sources of the threat.
