India has successfully conducted a user trial of the Agni-4 medium-range ballistic missile, marking another important milestone in the country’s strategic missile programme. The launch was carried out from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur, Odisha, under the supervision of the Strategic Forces Command (SFC) with technical support from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The trial successfully validated the missile’s operational readiness and technical performance.
The Agni-4 is a nuclear-capable, two-stage, solid-fuel ballistic missile with an operational strike range of approximately 4,000 kilometres. Developed indigenously, the missile forms a key component of India’s strategic deterrence capability and is designed to deliver high accuracy while carrying conventional or strategic payloads. Its advanced guidance and navigation systems enable precise targeting over long distances.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the latest launch successfully achieved all mission objectives by validating critical operational and technical parameters. The trial demonstrated the missile’s reliability, confirming its readiness for deployment as part of India’s strategic forces. The test was conducted as a routine user evaluation to ensure sustained operational effectiveness.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO scientists and the Strategic Forces Command for the successful mission, describing it as another example of India’s growing technological capabilities in strategic defence systems. He stated that the successful launch reflects the country’s commitment to maintaining a modern and credible defence posture.
The Agni missile family remains the backbone of India’s land-based strategic deterrent.
