India has stepped up its humanitarian assistance to Nepal after devastating flash floods caused widespread destruction and casualties across affected areas. The Indian government has dispatched 10 tonnes of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) material along with essential medicines to support relief operations in the neighbouring country.
The relief material was transported by an Indian Air Force C-130J aircraft, enabling the emergency supplies to be delivered rapidly to Nepal. The consignment includes temporary shelters, blankets, hygiene kits, solar lamps and medicines intended to support people affected by the disaster.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced the dispatch and said that India stands with Nepal and its people during the crisis. He expressed solidarity with families affected by the loss of life and reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting Nepal through humanitarian assistance.
The relief mission comes as Nepal deals with the impact of severe flash floods that have affected communities and damaged critical infrastructure. Rescue and relief teams are working to reach people stranded in affected areas and provide essential assistance.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke with Nepalese Prime Minister Balendra Shah and conveyed his condolences over the loss of lives. He assured Nepal of India’s readiness to provide all possible humanitarian assistance and highlighted the close coordination between the two countries in ongoing rescue and relief operations.
The deployment of the Indian Air Force’s C-130J demonstrates the importance of rapid airlift capabilities during humanitarian emergencies. The aircraft can transport personnel and essential cargo to areas where road connectivity may be disrupted by floods, landslides or damage to infrastructure.
India’s latest assistance reflects the longstanding cooperation between the two neighbouring countries in disaster response and humanitarian relief. The delivery of emergency shelters, medical supplies and other essential items is aimed at helping affected communities cope with the immediate consequences of the floods.
