Afghanistan has called for a stronger partnership with India, with Kabul highlighting the importance of deeper political engagement, economic cooperation and regional connectivity. The appeal comes as India and Afghanistan continue to expand diplomatic contacts and discussions on areas of mutual interest.
Mufti Noor Ahmad Noor, Charge d’Affaires of the Afghan Embassy in New Delhi, made the remarks during a reception marking the fifth anniversary of Afghanistan’s ‘Victory’ Day. He said stronger political trust and economic cooperation between the two countries could benefit both sides while contributing to wider regional stability and prosperity.
Noor highlighted the progress made in India-Afghanistan relations in recent years, pointing to increased diplomatic engagement and exchanges between senior officials. He also referred to the recent visit of Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister to India, saying the engagement had helped develop greater understanding in political, economic and humanitarian areas.
According to Noor, continued cooperation between New Delhi and Kabul could also improve connectivity across South Asia and beyond. He emphasised the longstanding historical links between the two countries, including ties through trade, transit, culture, sports and the exchange of knowledge.
The Afghan diplomat also thanked India for supporting Afghanistan’s interests at international forums. He expressed appreciation for the Indian leadership and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar while calling for continued attention to Afghanistan’s legitimate international concerns.
The event was attended by Anand Prakash, Joint Secretary of the PAI Division in India’s Ministry of External Affairs, along with diplomats and representatives from several countries. The participation of officials from different nations highlighted the broader regional interest surrounding Afghanistan’s engagement with India.
The latest appeal comes as New Delhi continues to maintain diplomatic engagement with Kabul. India’s Ministry of External Affairs has reaffirmed the longstanding nature of India-Afghanistan relations, while recent high-level exchanges have provided fresh momentum to bilateral engagement.
With Afghanistan seeking greater political and economic cooperation, India-Afghanistan relations are likely to remain important for regional connectivity and stability. Continued dialogue could further strengthen cooperation between the two countries while supporting broader economic and strategic interests in the region.
