A large-scale Ukrainian drone attack on Nizhnekamsk in Russia’s Tatarstan region has killed 13 people and injured 39 others, with a child among those killed.
At least 13 people, including a child, have been killed and 39 others injured in a major Ukrainian drone attack on the Russian city of Nizhnekamsk in Tatarstan, according to Russian officials. The strike has emerged as one of the deadliest Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian territory during the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
The attack struck Nizhnekamsk, an important industrial centre located deep inside Russia. The incident caused casualties in the city and also affected industrial infrastructure. Russian authorities reported damage following the wave of drones, while emergency personnel were sent to the affected locations.
The reported death toll initially stood at 12 before authorities confirmed another fatality, bringing the number of people killed to 13. A child was among the victims. Another 39 people were reported injured in the attack, making the incident one of the most serious recent episodes involving Ukrainian drones inside Russia.
The attack also reportedly affected the TANECO oil refinery, one of Russia’s significant oil-processing facilities. The refinery, operated by Tatneft, has been a strategically important part of the region’s industrial infrastructure. Reports indicated that a fire broke out at the facility following the drone attack, although the full extent of the damage was still being assessed.
Nizhnekamsk’s location makes the attack particularly significant. The city is far from the main battlefield, demonstrating the increasing range of Ukrainian unmanned aerial systems. Ukraine has increasingly used long-range drones to strike locations deep inside Russia, with energy facilities, military-linked infrastructure and industrial sites among the targets.

Russia, meanwhile, has maintained extensive air-defence operations to intercept incoming Ukrainian drones before they reach strategic locations.
The casualties in Nizhnekamsk underline the growing risks posed by the expansion of long-range drone warfare. As unmanned systems continue to reach areas far from the front line, civilian populations and major industrial centres are becoming increasingly exposed to the effects of the conflict.
